Kuali Research Proposal Development (KR PD) is the system used at CSU to build and route proposals for approval. Below are some tips gathered from users of the system to ensure you are getting the most out of your KR PD experience.
Basics
Delivery Info
Under “Delivery Info,” use “Submission description” to notify OSP of special submission instructions. For instance, if submitting to the National Science Foundation, you may want to note if the submission will be through Grants.gov Workspace, NSF FastLane, or NSF Research.gov.

Providing specific information, including email addresses for follow-up information, reduces confusion and streamlines the submission process.
Sponsor and Program Information
If a federal assistance solicitation lists multiple CFDA numbers or if the solicitation does not have a CFDA number, leave the CFDA field empty. Do not enter “None” in the field, simply leave it blank.

Attachments
While we do ask for a website location for guidelines, it is good practice to include a pdf attachment of the solicitation and related submission documents under Internal attachments. The solicitation and related submission documentation provide all the information needed to ensure a complete and accurate submission. Additionally, the solicitation may contain award terms and conditions and may be unavailable after the posted deadline.
In the Notes section, it is helpful to include additional instructions that may be needed. For instance, “Split F&A 40:60 between CIRA and Computer Science,” or “the solicitation limited F&A recovery to 8%.”

Budget
Use the budget tool in KR PD to build the budget, rather than starting with the sponsor form or an Excel spreadsheet. Doing so will ensure you have included the correct Institutional Base Salary (IBS), current fringe benefit, and F&A rates.
After you have built the budget in KR PD, you can open the Summary budget view and copy it into an Excel spreadsheet for the PI or sponsor as needed.
Save or Save and Continue
SAVE YOUR WORK often. “Save” keeps the user on the same page. “Save and Continue” moves the user to the next section.
