Complete Training
Research Security Training (RST)
As part of the implementation of National Security Measure Presidential Memorandum -33 and provisions under the CHIPS and Science Act, Federal regulations and guidance require that all principal investigators, co-principal investigators, and other types of key/senior research personnel who apply for federal funding take Research Security Training prior to the submission of any new funding proposal request, including non-competitive segments of current awards.
Conflict of Interest Training
All faculty, benefits-eligible administrative professionals, individuals designated as key personnel on federally funded awards, and/or researchers involved in human subjects protocols are required to submit annual Conflict of Interest (COI) disclosures at least once annually and report new activities within 30 days via the COI module in Kuali Research.
Responsible Conduct of Research (RCR) Training
Includes all scholarly and inquiry activities associated with the mission of CSU. Although the nature of such research varies by discipline, training in ethics and responsible conduct is an essential component of the education of all members of the academic community.
Institutional Review Board Training
Investigators and research staff who interact or intervene with human research subjects, or who use subjects’ identifiable information for the purposes of research, must complete Colorado State University’s required Human Subjects Research Training Courses relevant to the type of research being conducted and the investigator or staff member’s responsibilities.
Request Protocol Approvals
Institutional Biosafety Committee
Anyone wishing to work with any infectious agent (including BSL-1 agents), human body fluids or tissues, or recombinant DNA at Colorado State University must submit a proposed use to the Institutional Biosafety Committee (IBC) for review and approval before utilizing the materials. The Office of Research Collaboration and Compliance (ORCC) is currently in the process of migrating all IBC protocols from the Online IBC Database to the Biological Module within SciShield, our new research management platform.
Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee
The IACUC reviews and regulates the use of animals for research, teaching, and testing. The IACUC and the Attending Veterinarian have oversight and responsibility for CSU’s Animal Care and Use Program (ACUP) and the animal facilities, including satellite campuses where animals are used for research, teaching, and testing. Twice a year, the IACUC inspects CSU’s facilities and reviews the ACUP.
Human Subjects Research
The CSU HRPP consists of various individuals and committees including IRB Staff, Institutional Biosafety Committee, Radiation Safety, Conflict of Interest, Legal Counsel, investigators, research staff, health and safety staff, and research laboratory staff. The objective of this system is to assist the organization in meeting ethical principles and regulatory requirements for the protection of human subjects in research.
Buying Supplies
Buy supplies or equipment for my project (find a vendor). Colorado State University is an Institution of Higher Education in the State of Colorado and as such is governed by the Colorado State University Procurement Rules. The University has established a centralized Procurement and Contracting Services that is responsible for the procurement of all services and materials utilized by the University system.
Data Management
Involves planning, organizing, documenting, and preserving research data so it can be understood, shared, and reused. It includes creating a data management plan, clearly describing datasets, tracking processing steps, and archiving data to ensure long‑term access for yourself and other researchers.
Data Management Plans Templates
Data management starts even before data collection when you write a data management plan (DMP). Planning for the care of your data increases the chances that your data will be usable by you and you colleagues in the long run. Additionally, most funding agencies also require DMPs for grant submission.
Research Analytics
The Research Information Technology (Research IT) office prepares standard activity (e.g., expenditures, awards, proposals) reports, responds to external requests for information (e.g., NSF’s annual expenditures survey, Federal Demonstration Partnership) and performs ad hoc analysis upon request. The website is home to the VPR’s annual report, research-related data and provides links to pertinent external websites related to research activity
Infrastructure & Solutions
The Research IT Infrastructure & Solutions area provides complete systems solution development to meet needs across the university research enterprise including design requirements and architecture for custom technical solutions and configurations. In addition, this area also provides administration of operating systems and deployment frameworks which support both in-house developed and third party on-prem solutions.
Endpoint & Core Services
Research IT Endpoint & Core Services provides software, hardware, and network support for OVPR division staff and research Cores instrumentation support including analysis of requirements, standards and best practices, and implementation of network segmentation.
Research Computing & Cyberinfrastructure
We work on the leading edge of technology, partnering across campus to promote and build a culture of an engaged and knowledgeable cyberinfrastructure community. Research Computing and Cyberinfrastructure is evolving its services portfolio to meet the needs of researchers in areas of High-Performance Computing, Data Transfer and Data Management. Additionally, consulting with researchers to problem-solve and collaborate on a wide range of cyberinfrastructure needs as it relates to the research enterprise is a key focus of this area.
Export Control
Export control regulations rare designed to protect national security, support U.S. economic interests, and ensure responsible international collaboration. At Colorado State University, the Export Control program helps researchers navigate complex federal requirements that govern the transfer of certain technologies, data, equipment, and materials to foreign countries or individuals. Whether you’re conducting international research, hosting visiting scholars, or traveling abroad with university equipment, understanding these rules is essential for compliance and safeguarding your work.
International Shipping & Travel
Do you have a collaborator or vendor abroad that needs to send you a package? We can provide our carrier (UPS, FedEx, DHL) account number to them so they can send you the package. We will then bill the appropriate charges to your Kuali account number.
International Loaner Laptop
International travel poses data and information security risks, so CSU recommends requesting a loaner laptop to protect your work and the university’s network. Pick up the device at least three business days before departure to allow SGR staff to address any issues.d
International Travel Policies
CSU international travel policies and procedures are in place to promote student and faculty mobility abroad, to facilitate support for international travelers as they prepare for and participate in programs abroad, and to consider health and safety at all stages of the travel process. Departments managing programs and participants in education abroad or other types of international experiences are responsible for understanding and complying with CSU’s travel policies.
Research Admin, Management
The My Research Administration and Management (MyRAM) homepage serves as a centralized hub for Colorado State University’s research community, offering quick access to the tools, systems, and resources essential for managing research activities efficiently. The page provides streamlined entry points to core platforms such as the AAR Portal, Kuali Systems, RPS (Research Project Status), eCRT Effort Certification, and the Research IT Reporting Portal, supporting everything from proposal preparation to compliance tracking and award management. It also aggregates helpful campus-wide resources—including training modules, limited submission opportunities, sponsored programs updates, and key Power BI reports—ensuring faculty and staff can easily navigate administrative requirements and stay informed. Whether users are tracking project progress, completing certifications, or accessing critical data, MyRAM consolidates the systems needed to support a smooth and compliant research workflow at CSU.
Award Administration
Post-Award Sponsored Programs Administration is a responsibility that is shared between investigators, department/unit administrative offices, sponsored programs, and related offices. Because of the sheer number of individuals and units involved with a given sponsored project, everyone must have a clear understanding of their roles and responsibilities and must be in communication in order to effectively and successfully manage sponsor funds.
Environmental Health & Safety
Environmental Health Services is a professional multidisciplinary team. We promote environmental and occupational health and safety through education, consultation, monitoring and planning in response to present and future needs of CSU. To support the CSU System Board of Governors and CSU policies, we will foster partnerships with the University, the community and governmental entities.
Lab Safety
CSU provides multiple resources to help maintain a safe and proactive research and campus environment. Community members can report safety concerns or near‑miss incidents through the CSU Incident Entry System, ensuring issues are documented and addressed promptly. For those needing additional support, the Research Safety Culture Program offers free safety consultations to help researchers work safely and effectively. In emergency situations, immediate action is essential, call 911 for life‑threatening events or contact CSUPD at (970) 491‑6425 for non‑emergencies.
