General Storage – OneDrive
Provides private, secure, cloud-based file storage associated with your NetID to support individual productivity and day-to-day work. It is best suited for drafts, notes, presentations, administrative documents, and other working files that benefit from easy access, syncing across devices, and integration with Microsoft 365 apps.

Sharing files – SharePoint
SharePoint is part of the Microsoft 365 offering and provides team-based sites for shared documents, collaboration, and information sharing across departments and projects. SharePoint is provisioned through college/unit IT areas.
For questions or requests for a SharePoint site, please start by contacting your college/unit IT support, who can coordinate with DoIT as needed.
Additional Storage – RStor
*New* – Use RStor for on‑premise storage supporting administrative, academic, and research needs. Both small and large files can be stored with easy access if you need to get to the files quickly.
Please note, Global VPN is required for off-campus access to RStor. Examples may include teaching materials from previous semesters, grants or data, publication files, videos, archived media files, etc.
- Each college/unit has an allocation.
- OVPR has expanded capacity to 2.5 petabytes (PB).
- The cost to users is $147/TB/Year. See your department IT director regarding your college’s cost structure.
Dedicated Globus Storage – GStor
GStor is dedicated high-speed storage for Globus. It is primarily used as a distribution point for large, relatively static data that needs to be shared with outside collaborators. Get help with Globus
Controlled Unclassified Information (CUI) Storage – Secure Enclave
Use the Secure Enclave to store CUI data. OVPR (specifically “Export Controls and Foreign Engagement” office) manages access to the Secure Enclave, Sherlock, in partnership with the University of California – San Diego (UCSD).

HIPAA & PHI Data Storage
Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) and Protected Health Information (PHI) data can be stored using REDCap access provided at no cost through the Colorado Clinical and Translational Science Institute (CCTSI) collaborative.
Virtual Machine Hosting & Storage – Azure
Microsoft Azure offers virtual machine hosting, scalable storage options, and Software-as-a-Service solutions – including managed databases. Azure has a list of storage services available with encryption, redundancy, and secure access options. If you have questions about Azure services at CSU, please start by contacting your college/unit IT support, who can coordinate with DoIT for additional assistance.
Transferring Data within CSU and with External Collaborators
Globus
You can transfer large sets of data more securely and faster using Globus. Globus addresses deficiencies in traditional file-transfer mechanisms by automating large data transfers, resuming failed transfers, distributing large transfers across multiple servers, and brokering direct transfers between remote computing centers.
Research Transfer Network
CSU researchers can transfer data through the Research Transfer Network (RTN), a fully redundant, self–healing 10 Gbps core backbone network, with a 40 Gbps ultrahigh–speed Research DMZ LAN. Data can be transferred to/from RStor and GStor to anywhere Globus reaches, which might be persistent managed endpoints, desktops, or laptops. This network was created in support of researcher collaboration and data exchange. Globus resides on the RTN and is its primary purpose. Extending the RTN to other areas of campus via high-speed fiber is what allows it to best make use of Globus.
High Performance Computing – Bighorn
The fair share High-Performance Computer (HPC) resource available to all CSU researchers is Bighorn. Bighorn will be located at Powerhouse with significantly expanded capacity, including a direct high-speed connection to storage on Bighorn. through Globus. High Performance Computing – Alpine
Access to the CU-Boulder Alpine High Performance Computing Center is available through our partnership in the Rocky Mountain Advanced Computing Consortium (RMACC) at no cost to researchers. RMACC is a regional collaboration of academic, research, and professional institutions across the intermountain states. Support is provided through the University of Colorado at Boulder.

Data Centers
The Walter Scott, Jr. College of Engineering owns and manages the Scott Data Center. Server rack space is available at a yearly charge per rack unit (U), and requests are filled based on availability. Interested users should work through their college/unit IT support team who in turn coordinate with Engineering Technology Services.
Similarly, Mainsite is owned and managed by DoIT. Interested users should work through their college/unit IT support team who coordinate with DoIT.
Publishing Research Data
Dryad
Dryad is a non-profit data repository offering data curation and publishing services, helping researchers meet funding and publication mandates.
- CSU Libraries fully covers Dryad Data Publishing Charges for its researchers for data packages up to 10 GB. For data submissions exceeding 10 GB, a Large Data Fee will apply.
- CSU has budgeted funds to cover up to 100 GB of large data fees per year for its researchers. Once this annual budget is exhausted, any additional Large Data Fees must be paid by the author(s) at the time of submission.
Open Access Digital Repository
Mountain Scholar
The Mountain Scholar repository provides online access to the research and scholarship of CSU’s faculty, students, and staff. This digital repository, managed by CSU Libraries, brings together much of the university’s research under one umbrella to preserve and provide access to that research. Researchers can submit scholarly output, such as journal articles, conference proceedings and presentations, and audio and video files, for long-term public access and preservation.
Open Access Publishing Agreements
CSU Libraries has negotiated several publishing agreements that enable researchers affiliated with CSU to publish their work in open access. Some or all article processing charges (APCs) are covered by several publishers.
