As CSU rises to the challenge of developing and submitting more complex proposals, proposal budgets also become more complex.
The system still allows only one budget version to be marked ‘include for submission’, but the process of getting to that version of the budget may require iterated or partial budget versions. There are also reasons to have ‘reference only’ budget versions for internal minimum effort cost-share, complex cost-share calculations, task budgets within a larger project budget, etc.
If there will be more than one budget version in a proposal, use the Budget Comments to identify more clearly what each budget version is for.
Using comments is even more important if the status is changed to ‘complete’ for more than one budget version. While you may need OSP to know that the content of multiple budgets is ‘complete’, OSP needs to know which complete version is the one intended for submission, and having the information in the PD record itself increases the efficiency of the pre-routing budget review process.
To get to the Budget Comments data entry point, open Budget Settings using the link in the horizontal menu within an open budget version. NOTE: The proposal must be in ‘edit’ mode, and the budget version must be ‘incomplete’ to add comments or make other edits:
