Colorado State University (CSU) is committed to protecting the health and safety of its community and the environment in all activities involving biological materials. The Institutional Biosafety Committee (IBC) supports this commitment by ensuring that research and teaching activities involving potentially hazardous biological agents are conducted safely, responsibly, and in compliance with applicable regulations and guidelines. The IBC reviews and oversees activities involving infectious agents, human-derived materials, biological toxins, and recombinant or synthetic nucleic acid molecules conducted by CSU faculty, staff, and students. Reviews are conducted in accordance with the NIH Guidelines for Research Involving Recombinant or Synthetic Nucleic Acid Molecules (NIH Guidelines) and the CDC/HHS Biosafety in Microbiological and Biomedical Laboratories (BMBL). Anyone planning to work with biohazardous materials must submit their proposed project for IBC review and approval before initiating work.
