Aug. 18: Research budget news and federal updates

This email is being sent to PIs with open federal awards, deans, research associate deans, and unit heads whose units have federal sponsored projects.

Dear Colleagues:

If you’ve been out in the field or off campus this summer, welcome back. Fall is a time of year with infectious energy on campus.

As the semester begins, you are hearing from leaders about the current state of the university. As mentioned in the budget message, we ended last fiscal year on another historic high, measured by research and sponsored project expenditures.  The research funding outlook at CSU is complex. We have seen a marked uptick in new and continuing award obligations over the past month, which we anticipate continuing through the end of the federal fiscal year. We are constantly working to advocate for federal science funding, joining legal challenges to engaging with elected officials about the important research you do.

OVPR is launching a series of workshops on university/industry research partnerships, with the first workshop on Aug. 21. This is part of a larger OVPR effort to help researchers secure ongoing funding (federal and other sources) and support. On Aug. 20, CSU researchers are invited to a National Science Foundation sharing session to catch up on recent developments within the agency. The informal session is in-person only from 12:30-2 p.m., Wednesday, Aug. 20 in the Lory Student Center Room 308. You can RSVP or submit questions online

I have so appreciated the innovation and creativity you all have shown to continue to move us forward together.

Best,

Cass
