VPR Graduate Fellowship Application & Eligibility

Fellowship Benefits

  • $1,250 stipend in the fall and spring semesters ($2,500 total)
  • $1,500 travel stipend
  • Monthly professional development workshops and a summer cohort opportunity
    • 5:00- 6:30 pm on the second Tuesday of each month, August through April

Start date: July 1
End date: June 30

Eligibility

  1. Be admitted to Graduate School at Colorado State University.
  2. Enroll for and complete at least 1 Colorado State University credit of graduate work (excluding audits and Continuous Registration) during each semester of fellowship award year.
  3. Have earned a 3.0 overall undergraduate grade point average (4.0 = A).
  4. Have earned a 3.0 overall grade point average in any previous graduate work.
  5. Maintain a 3.0 overall grade point average in graduate work at Colorado State University (regular and non-regular course work).
  6. Maintain satisfactory progress toward a graduate degree.
  7. Commit to on-going engagement in monthly Colorado State University on-campus professional development activities. Protected time for these sessions is a requirement. Dinner is provided. For students not based in the Fort Collins area, expenses for travel to the professional development sessions are the responsibility of your home department and must be approved prior to submitting your application. 

Required Application Package Materials:

The complete application form below and all supporting documentation should be compiled into a single PDF application package and uploaded electronically by the candidate to the CSU InfoReady Review system by Monday, March 4, 2024, at 5:00 pm MT, *with the exception of
the required letter of supporting reference.

*A separate letter of supporting reference from letter writers must be uploaded electronically to the CSU InfoReady Review system by Monday, March 11, 2024, at 5:00 pm MT. Upon submitting your application or clicking “Send Reference Letter Request” on a saved draft
application, your supporting reference letter writer will receive an email containing a unique link to a web page where letters may be uploaded. It is strongly suggested that graduate students share the application materials with their mentor and notify them of the need for a letter of supporting reference well in advance of finalizing the VPR Fellowship application. 

A complete application package must include:

Submitted by Applicant:
o Applicant Form (with signatures) – see application form template, below
o Research Project Summary (1 page max)
o Statement of Interest (1 page max)
o Current CV (no page limit)

Submitted by Reference:
o Letter of Supporting Reference (2 page max)

To Access the CSU InfoReady Review System for Submission:

2. You must use your CSU NetID/password to log in.
3. Click “Apply” then complete and upload all required components. You can save your application as a draft prior to submission. Be sure to submit your application.
Applications left as “draft” will not be reviewed.

Review Criteria:
Applications will be assessed based on the following: 
o Project Quality and Scope: Project Summary provided a clear and logical background and sequence of current/ future aims, with an understanding of the research/ scholarship being addressed and its significance. 
o Student Preparation and Trajectory: Statement of Interest, CV, and Letter of Reference demonstrate a mix of training, activities, strengths, and support that signify alignment with the Fellowship and a trajectory that would have a strong potential benefit from a year of professional development and research support. 
o Commitment: Statement of Interest conveys knowledge of the VPR Fellows program and enthusiasm for its professional development objectives, and demonstrates a commitment to contribute to the program. 
Consideration will also be given to selecting a VPR Fellows cohort with broad representation across the Colleges, subject to having a strong pool from each of the Colleges.
