RAO provides proposal development support for complex and strategic funding proposals. In addition to working directly with CSU’s researchers, scholars, and artisans, we curate resources to inform and support CSU faculty as they prepare proposals for submission. What are complex and strategic proposals?
Complex proposals may involve
- Highly detailed proposal packages with many required elements.
- Multiple CSU departments and/or colleges.
- Multiple external partners/subrecipients.
- International partners.
- Sponsor-required institutional buy-in/support, including mandatory cost share.
- Large budgets (>$1M direct costs per year or comparable scope for CLA).
- Multiple program components (e.g., research, workforce development, commercialization).
Strategic proposals may
- Involve areas of particular interest and/or priority to CSU senior leadership (e.g., institution-wide programs).
- Attract significant recognition to the investigators and CSU.
- Act as key stepping stones to bigger opportunities.
- Or it may not also be complex or high-dollar.

- Coordinating with partnering institutions

- Managing “red team” reviewers and other external review processes
- Working with graphic designers on proposal figures and other visuals
- Coordinating core facility and institutional infrastructure/resource information
- Assisting with post-submission sponsor communications
