Enhancing capacity for collaborative research

This email is being sent to PIs with open federal awards, deans, research associate deans, and unit heads whose units have federal sponsored projects.

Dear colleagues,

I hope you all enjoyed your time away or at least a quieter campus last week.

The most important task continues to be moving forward on your sponsored projects. In addition, there continues to be considerable opportunities to apply for research funding, even as the landscape continues to shift. Faced with a more competitive funding environment, OVPR has launched a revised Catalyst Program, with new Ready, Set, and Go phases designed to enhance capacity for collaborative research. The new program prepares interdisciplinary teams to cultivate transformative collaborations and pursue high-reward opportunities with greater success. The Ready phase starts in two weeks (learn more and register).

We are hearing PIs at other institutions have been asked to sign attestations regarding their research funds and activities. Please do not respond to these requests if you receive one (regardless of the stated timeline) and continue to send them and any other agency communication immediately to [email protected]. Only the Office of Sponsored Programs is authorized to respond.

You have, by now, grown used to me saying that the federal sponsored project outlook is a shifting landscape. I anticipate that these dynamics will continue for some time. In recent weeks, we have seen a small uptick in award actions, although most agencies continue to be slow at issuing new funds or approving amendments. We are continuing to see stop work notices being resolved either by the notice being lifted (more common) or the grant being terminated (less common).

Please continue to reach out with any questions or suggestions by emailing [email protected]. OVPR remains committed to helping you navigate these uncertain times and will continue to share updates as we have them.

Best,

Cass
