This email is being sent to PIs with open federal awards, deans, research associate deans, and unit heads whose units have federal sponsored projects.
Dear Colleagues:
We are about a month into the sweeping changes coming from the federal government, and I want to thank you all for your ongoing collaboration and support. I know this is testing all of us in ways we never imagined, and I am grateful for the resilience and strength of CSU’s talented research community.
This week, we plan to make some updates to the research federal guidance website including new FAQs to help answer more of your questions. In the meantime, I wanted to reinforce a few key points:
- If you receive a request from a sponsor to modify your award, please immediately reach out to us at [email protected]. All modifications must be reviewed and submitted by the Office of Sponsored Programs; do not submit them independently. We know that some of these requests have come with very short timelines, and we have organized ourselves to respond rapidly.
- We continue to be operating in a fluid environment. On Friday, a court extended the temporary restraining order halting the NIH from capping F&A at 15%. Another judge prohibited on a temporary basis adding new terms and conditions to awards that seek to enforce some components of the executive orders. At this time, we are treating sponsored projects separately from the U.S. Department of Education’s Dear Colleague letter.
- Please continue with your research activities unless you have been directed otherwise by OVPR; continue to with the original terms and conditions of your award.
- Send questions, suggestions, and requests for support – along with any notices and orders from sponsoring agencies – to [email protected].
Your commitment and passion for your work are an invaluable part of the university’s rich culture. For many of us, our work is more than work. Please be sure that you are taking time to recharge – enjoy the weather, spend time with those you love, do something restorative. If you are worried about yourself, a colleague, or a student, ask for help. CSU offers resources to support the well-being of all university students and employees.
- University-wide health, well-being and safety resources
- Well-being resources for employees
- CSU Employee Assistance Program
- Mental health and well-being services for students
We are in this together.
Best,
Cass
