Welcome to the 2024 Poster Session information page! Here you will find a step by step guide on how to be involved with the Data Science Research Institute Undergraduate Research Poster Session, poster submission form, and examples of posters from the previous year.
If you have any further questions, feel free to contact either Michael Kirby (DSRI director) or Brandon Shanks (communication and events coordinator).
We hope to see you at our poster session this year!
- WHEN: January 25th at 4:00 p.m.
- WHERE: Scott Bioengineering Building first floor atrium
- POSTER SUBMISSION DEADLINE: January 22
- WHY: As a researcher, we encourage you to attend the poster session and present a poster of your research
What is the poster session all about?
- The Data Science Research Institute aims to provide research support to faculty and investigators involved in various data science research across campus. One way is by providing funding for undergraduates to work as research assistants on these projects.
- The poster session is an event to pair faculty with student researchers in a fun way. Instead of students presenting posters, faculty present posters about their research projects that are looking for undergraduate researchers.
- Last year we had 25 faculty poster presentations, and eight different students got funded to participate in these projects.
- During the poster session, students will stop by each of the faculty posters to learn more about the opportunities, as well as get connected if they are interested in the project.
- While students can be paired to a project after the poster session, the in-person event provides a unique experience for faculty and students to network, learn, and get a glimpse of some of the research going on at CSU. Plus, free pizza!
Below are the steps for getting involved as a researcher looking for undergraduate researchers.
- Design a poster for a research project. Send the poster to DSRI for posting on the website and printing.
- Present poster at DSRI Poster Session.
- As you discuss the project with students, ask students who are interested in working on the project to follow up with an email.
- Check with your department and college to see if you can obtain matching funds for the undergrad. This will allow for more students to be funded.
- Once you find a student that you would like to work with, contact DSRI to get the hiring process started.
