Colorado State University Trade Excellence Center (CSU-TEC)
The Mission of CSU-TEC is to provide Technical Training, Education and Assessment Solutions to the Domestic and International Agriculture Industries.
Global demand for U.S. red meat products has been challenged by evolving issues associated with food safety, lack of transportation, inadequate levels of skilled labor and certainly with the onset of the CoVid-19 pandemic. Colorado State University Trade Excellence Center (CSU-TEC) offers a plethora of science-based solutions to the issues that are faced by international customers serving to provide meat products to U.S. consumers.
The CSU-TEC Program focusing on Meat Science conducts and publishes applied and technical industry research addressing significant and timely issues related to the global competitiveness of red meats, including red meat safety and product quality, and efforts to export more red meat products to international markets. Results and conclusions of these projects are beneficial to the red meat industry, consumers and regulatory agencies in the United States and around the world. Much of the technology developed through these efforts has a great impact on the safety, quality and market access of red meat products and, as a result, has been implemented extensively by companies to provide sustainable, high-quality products on a consistent basis.
Services Offered:
RESEARCH
Conduct and publish applied industry research addressing significant and timely issues related to the global competitiveness of red meats, including red meat safety, sustainable production systems and product quality. This research will be conducted by CSU-TEC affiliated faculty and graduate student personnel.
S. MARKET ANALYSIS
Assessment of various markets and opportunities along with identifying key U.S. distributors/customers in various U.S. geographical regions.
TRADE FACILITATION
In a globalized world where goods often cross borders many times as both intermediate and final products, trade facilitation helps lower overall trade costs and increase economic welfare, in particular for developing and emerging economies.
TRAINING
This is a major strength of the program which addresses utilization of various products in the distribution, processing, restaurant (chef training and menu development) and retail sectors of the industry. CSU-TEC personnel are experts in the areas of fabrication, palatability, developing a marketing story for the use in sales and end-user conversations. This training programs can be conducted online, in the CSU Global Foods Innovation Center or at the potential U.S. distribution facility.
CONSUMER TESTING
Our capabilities are to conduct either qualitative or quantitative tests. Qualitative tests, often focus groups, are designed to elicit information about consumer desires and to probe consumers’ minds for clues to purchase behavior or further understanding of acceptance measures. Conversely, quantitative tests, e.g. preference or acceptance tests, are designed to give data that indicate how many people prefer a product, how much they like the product or what they perceive about specific attributes
S. DISTRIBUTION OPPORTUNITY ANALYSIS
On a case per case basis, a mega analysis will be undertaken that overviews importer, distributor and potential end-user, training opportunities for potential CSU-TEC clients. Target accounts and development of a 3-year sales/marketing plan will be conducted.
Faculty & Staff
The CSU-TEC has available expertise to address all issues of meat and food safety, defense, and quality, and to contribute to the enhancement of trade facilitation. CSU-TEC scientists have interacted and lectured in more than 40 countries, on top of their partnerships in over 30 groups within the United States.
