April 8: Monitoring ongoing federal changes

Dear colleagues,

Every day brings new federal developments that impact universities and research. Your steadfast commitment to our land grant mission is making a difference.

We are continuing to monitor evolving federal agency priorities, reorganizations, and workforce reductions, as well as funding decisions and lawsuits. Many federal agencies are reviewing programs and grants. Changes to grants may include adjusting incremental funding on multi-year projects, denying no cost extensions, applying carryover funds toward next year’s incremental budget, scope modifications, and outright terminations. If your funding is reduced, you will likely need to modify your project scope. The Office of Sponsored Programs (OSP) will help submit any requests for modifications.

If you receive a notice from your sponsor, please consult with OSP before taking action. Please do not respond directly to communications from federal agencies and continue to send any communications to [email protected]. Work with your senior research administrator in OSP, even if you have communicated directly with your sponsor in the past. This includes urgent requests for information or requests to sign attestations.

As a quick reminder, the Research Acceleration Office provides broad research development support to strengthen and attract research funding and partnerships. We have upcoming workshops on May 8 as well as an open seed funding program to support new research collaborations.

As we all continue to manage this shifting landscape, please take care of yourself and those around you, and ask for help. This week I wanted to remind folks of the resources available to our community:

I am grateful every day for our CSU community and our collective commitment to our students, our research enterprise, and our land grant mission. As always, please reach out any time with questions, concerns, or suggestions.

Best,

Cass
