NSF Update on SciENcv

One of the proposed changes to the new NSF Proposal and Award Policies and Procedures Guide (PAPPG) is the fillable templates for biographical sketch and current and pending documents will no longer be allowed for proposal submission or in submission of annual/final reporting. Use of SciENcv will now be mandatory once the new PAPPG goes live (anticipated to be released January 2023). Below are NSF’s reasons for this change:

  • SciENcv will produce an NSF-compliant PDF document that will easily upload into Research.gov without compliance issues since SciENcv will always have the most up to date version.
  • Use of old versions and doctored templates create errors in Research.gov.
  • New requirements from the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA), to certify the information Senior Personnel are providing in the biographical sketches and current and pending documents are accurate, current, and complete will be completed in SciENcv.

Ahead of this deadline, make sure to get your SciENcv account established. SciENcv can be found at NCBI. Since SciENcv was built as a cooperative project with the Federal Demonstration Partnership (FDP) and in collaboration with sponsors such as NSF, NIH, DOE, DoD, and many others, your account in SciENcv can be initiated and linked to your NSF, NIH, ORCiD, eCommons, Login.gov, and many 3rd party accounts.

The main benefits of SciENcv are:

  • Eliminates the need to repeatedly enter biosketch and current and pending information
  • Reduces the administrative burden associated with federal grant submission and reporting requirements
  • Includes a feature to add a delegate to help you manage documents
  • Provides access to a researcher-claimed data repository with information on expertise, employment, education, and professional accomplishments
  • Allow researchers to describe their scientific contributions in their own language

The Research Acceleration Office (RAO) and the Office of Sponsored Programs (OSP) offer training in SciENcv. If you are interested in a training, please reach out to BreeAnn Brandhagen ([email protected]) in RAO or Shannon Irey ([email protected]) in OSP.
