Diversity

SMSE Diversity Statement

As a multidisciplinary program, the School of Materials Science & Engineering is inherently diverse in academic practices and experiences. We are further committed to an environment in which all community members feel welcomed, valued, and affirmed by:

  • Removing the GRE requirement for applicants and holistically reviewing admissions applications
  • Having an active Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DEI) committee that identifies and responds to opportunities for development of DEI
  • Developing DEI competency and relating it to the field of materials science and engineering
  • Engaging with our local community and educating them about materials
  • Recruiting and retaining students that will increase the diversity of our program
  • Providing opportunities for continued growth and awareness of DEI issues
