Saliva Screening for the Research Community
CSU’s top focus is maintaining the health and well-being of our community. As part of this commitment, we are requiring regular COVID-19 screening for those who are engaged in research and scholarly activity on campus in our laboratories and performance spaces.
For information on testing, visit the CSU Stalwart Website.
Our aim is to provide evidence-based approaches to our public health and safety efforts. With the rising COVID cases in our region, we will continue to take measures to keep our campus research and scholarly community safe, so that you can continue to make amazing impacts through discovery and innovation.
Q: Where is the screening location? Are there multiple options for screening at Foothills or South campus?
A: Saliva screening is at the MAC gym in the CSU Rec Center on central campus. This space was chosen for a range of reasons (capacity, air flow, ability to stage personnel, etc.). We are looking at other options on the other campus as we move to spring. These are not available at this time.
Q: Does the screening requirement apply to the Foothills campus, the ARDEC, the Veterinary campus, the Powerhouse and all CSU research spaces in Larimer County?
A: Yes – please make the time to sign up for screening at the MAC gym in the CSU Rec Center. We are working on options for screening at the Foothills campus, the ARDEC and the Veterinary Campus, but there are many safety and operational details to consider. Those sites are not yet operational.
Q: How do researchers apply for a screening exemption?
A: Email your request to your Research Associate Dean or Center/Institute Director (if you are not associated with a college). Your request will be evaluated and adjudicated by all RADs and Directors
- Explain the adverse impacts saliva screening would have on essential operations or your reasons for not wanting to participate in screening
- Clearly explain how granting this exemption will protect others – this is a mandatory step! Please include:
- Co-workers and colleagues
- Cleaning personnel
- Visitors/customers/clients
Q: Do researchers, living in university housing that is already on a screening cadence, need to be screened twice each week?
A: No – for weeks that you participate in the saliva screening program for university housing, you do not need to be screened again in the same week.
Q: Can people work if they have no symptoms and they are waiting on the results of the saliva screening?
A: Yes.
Q: What will be the possible actions I may have to take after my saliva screening?
A: You will either get an email saying that no further action is needed, or you will get an email and a phone call saying that you need to follow up with a nasal swab test. If you are required to follow up with a nasal swab test, the links to the registration and scheduling sites will be included in the email.
Q: Can I return to work if the saliva screening comes back saying that I need to follow up with a nasal swab test?
A: No – you are required to stay home except to get your nasal swab test. If your nasal swab test is negative and you do not have symptoms, you can return to work. If your nasal swab test is positive, you are required to isolate.
Q: If a person has completed the full quarantine period mandated by Larimer County Public Health after they tested positive through nasal swab testing, do they need to retest or are they free to return to work?
A: They are free to return to work if they do not have symptoms for COVID-19. CSU Public Health does not require additional tests for anyone who has previously tested positive by nasal swab within the last 90 days. Those individuals also do not require saliva screening.
