Accelerated Masters Program (AMP)

Program Summary

The Accelerated B.S./Master’s program, or AMP, allows you to earn graduate credits while completing upper division bachelor’s degree requirements.

Students with strong scholarly and/or research interests may apply for admission to a combined bachelor’s and master’s degree program to begin the following fall or spring semester after they graduate with their bachelor’s degree.

Students who are accepted into this program are allowed to apply nine credits of 500-level coursework, with grades of B or better, toward both their undergraduate and graduate degrees.

Program Options

Three scientists in lab coats analyze data together in a brightly lit laboratory, focused and engaged.

Eligibility

  • Must be enrolled in a CSU bachelor’s degree in Physics
  • A cumulative GPA of at least 3.0 by the time you apply
  • Completion of: PH 245 and either PH 353 or PH 341
  • Enrollment in or Completion of: PH314, PH 315 & PH 361
  • Enrollment in or registration in or completion of: MECH 331A
  • For admission to the Masters of Science (MS) program, a commitment from an advisor who holds a Core Faculty Position within the School of Materials Science & Engineering to serve as their graduate advisor

Steps and Timeline for Applying

Junior Year

  • Fall and spring semesters: contact the SMSE Program Manager to discuss AMP
  • If applying to MS, during fall and spring semesters- schedule meetings with potential faculty research advisors for AMP
  • If applying to MS, during fall and spring semesters- select a faculty research advisor

Senior Year (after admission to the AMP program)

  • Fall and spring semesters: Take up to nine credits of 500-level MSE courses
  • January 15: Apply to the MME or MS graduate program via the Graduate School standard application process
  • February: Complete the GS4 form via RamWeb

First Semester of MME or MS Program

  • Complete the GS6 Program of Study via RamWeb
