A.R. Ravishankara

A.R. (Ravi) Ravishankara
Professor of Chemistry and Atmospheric Science

Dr. Ravishankara has worked over the past three and a half decades on the chemistry of the Earth’s atmosphere as it relates to stratospheric ozone depletion, climate change, and regional air quality.  His measurements in the laboratory and in the atmosphere have contributed to deciphering the ozone layer depletion, including the ozone hole; to quantifying the role of chemically active species on climate; and to advancing understanding of the formation, removal, and properties of pollutants.

Sonia Kreidenweis

Sonia Kreidenweis
Professor of Atmospheric Science

Dr. Kreidenweis is a professor of Atmospheric Science at Colorado State University. She is also presently serving as Associate Dean for Research in the College of Engineering. Her research interests center on atmospheric particulate matter and its role in air quality and climate. In particular, she is interested in aerosol water contents and aerosol-cloud interactions for both liquid and ice clouds. She received her BS in chemical engineering from Manhattan College in 1983, and MS and PhD degrees in chemical engineering from the California Institute of Technology in 1985 and 1989, respectively.

Marilee Long

Marilee Long
Professor of Journalism and Media Communication

Marilee Long’s research interests are in health and science communication. Recent work has addressed media coverage of health and its effects on public support for health policy and on individuals’ behaviors, and the effects of media portrayals of science and scientists on adolescents’ attitudes toward science careers. She has been PI or co-PI on grants from the National Institutes of Health, National Science Foundation, Colorado Tobacco Research Program, among others. Her professional experience includes being a technical writer/editor in aerospace and engineering, and a writer in the public affairs office for a hospital and clinics. She is also a professor in the Colorado School of Public Health and a Fellow in the American Association for the Advancement of Science.

Jennifer Peel

Jennifer Peel
Professor of Epidemiology

Dr. Jennifer Peel is an associate professor of Epidemiology at Colorado State University. She is the section head for Epidemiology in the Department of Environmental and Radiological Health Sciences and the Epidemiology Concentration Director for the public health program at Colorado State University. Her research focuses on the health effects of ambient and household air pollution, both in the U.S. and in Central America. She earned a BS in Molecular and Cell Biology from the Pennsylvania State University in 1996 and MPH and PhD degrees in Epidemiology from Emory University in 1998 and 2003, respectively. She is an Associate Editor for Environmental Health Perspectives.

John Volckens

John Volckens
Professor of Mechanical Engineering and Environmental Health Sciences

Dr. John Volckens is an associate professor of Mechanical Engineering and Environmental Health Sciences at Colorado State University. He also directs the Center for Energy Development and Health within CSU’s Energy Institute. His research interests involve combustion science, aerosol technology, and air pollution-related disease. He earned a BS in Civil/Environmental Engineering from the University of Vermont in 1996 and MS and PhD degrees from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in 1999 and 2003, respectively. He is a co-founder of Access Sensor Technologies, a spinout company started through his research collaborations at Colorado State University.
