Custom Machining & Custom Microscopy Hardware

Microscopic imaging frequency requires customized hardware, either to hold a specimen mounted in an unconventional manner, or for custom microscopes that perform specialized tasks. The MIN is able to provide consulting services for custom hardware design.

Roller Tube Holder and Incubation Chamber

A customized solution for imaging brain slices incubated in flat-bottom roller tubes was developed by the MIN for the Bamburg lab at CSU. Details will be included in a forthcoming JoVE article. The image above was captured during initial testing of the incubation chamber. Technical drawings of the aluminum tube holder and chamber can be downloaded by clicking the image below. Please direct questions regarding construction of the chamber to Dr. Jeff Field.

3D rendering of the tube holder with the incubation chamber top and two sides removed. Click on the image to download technical drawings of the parts needed to construct the tube holder. Please note that in addition to the parts detailed in the drawings, eight 4-mm-diameter by 3/4-inch posts with 4-40 tapped holes are required to secure the incubation chamber to the stage insert. Four of these posts are visible in the rendering above.
