When you travel internationally, there are significant information and data security risks. CSU encourages you to request a loaner laptop to help keep your data, research, scholarships, and the CSU network safer. We encourage you to pick up the device at least 3 business days in advance of your trip so that the SGR staff can address any questions or issues you may have before you depart.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n

Why it matters<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

You likely have data stored on your device, and that data may be viewed as valuable to certain foreign governments or other entities, or must be protected under university policies, state, or federal laws. A loaner laptop removes some of the risks associated with data security and travel.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The U.S. State Department, along with the CSU Export Controls and Foreign Engagement Office, recommends removing personal and sensitive information from your device before your travel.Why it matters<\/p>\n\n\n\n

  • If you must bring personal laptops, always keep them in your possession<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  • Do not accept thumb drives, install unfamiliar software, open suspicious links, or connect to non-secure wireless networks<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  • Protect your electronic devices with up-to-date anti-virus software<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  • Always keep cell phones in your possession<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n

    Who is eligible to use checkout devices?<\/strong><\/em>
    All faculty and staff may use this service to request a loaner laptop.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    Can I borrow a smartphone?<\/strong><\/em>
    At this time, we do not have loaner smartphones.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    How long can I borrow a device for?<\/strong><\/em>
    30 days is the maximum loan duration. Please contact the SGR Office if you require a loaner for a longer period of time.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    What will happen when I return?<\/strong><\/em>
