Age-Focused Research

Focus Area : Age-Friendly Engineering, Design & Rehabilitation

Age-Friendly Engineering, Design and Rehabilitation

Applied research within the Age-Friendly Engineering, Design and Rehabilitation focus aims to create more accommodating spaces, devices, and lifestyle habits to improve quality of life for an increasingly older population. Faculty in this focus are discovering how physical environments affect behavior in adults with dementia and developing health information technologies for older adults, their caregivers, and providers. Research foci include examining the impact of policy on healthcare costs or health disparities, designing computer software that can be deployed in healthcare systems, and creating therapeutic interventions to treat patients with cancer, traumatic brain injuries, or physical disabilities, among other applications that intend to enrich patients’ well-being.
