February 14: Update on federal sponsored projects
Friday, Feb. 14, 2025
This email is being sent to PIs with open federal awards, deans, research associate deans, and unit heads whose units have federal sponsored projects.
Dear Colleagues,
As we end the week, I’m sending an update on federal activities related to research.
On Feb. 10, a federal judge granted a temporary restraining order to halt the implementation of the 15% facilities and administration cap on grants from the National Institutes of Health as a result of a lawsuit filed by 22 states, including Colorado. The APLU and the AAU also jointly filed a lawsuit to halt the cap, and a temporary restraining order was also issued in that case.
The NIH has also indicated that they are planning on resuming issuing awards for all competing, non-competing continuation and administrative supplement grants, and those grants should continue to use previously approved negotiated indirect cost rates. We will continue to track this issue through the legal process.
Unless you receive notice from a sponsor or the OVPR, please continue your research activities as normal and comply with the original terms and conditions of your awards. We continue to review notices received by researchers. If you receive a notice, please send it immediately to [email protected] for review and assessment.
As you know, there are numerous developments each day on the federal level, and this creates many unanswered questions. We understand that these changes create uncertainty, and our number one priority is to support you. We’ll continue to provide updates on our federal research updates website as well as in messages.
Please email us at [email protected] if you are not able to find the information you need on our website.
Best,
Cass
