Jimikaye Beck, OVPR Research Fellow
  • 3 Minute Challenge Presentation: Rescuing Our Rescuers
  • What sparked your interest in research? I’ve always been a ‘learner’ and love collecting as much information as I can about a variety of topics. I started doing research when I was an undergraduate and realized that research was one of the best careers to fill my love of learning and discovery.
  • What drew you to CSU? The Health and Exercise Science Department and Dr. Ray Browning!
  • How has the fellowship benefited you? Getting to know graduate students from other departments at CSU has been one of the greatest benefits of the program. In meeting these other graduates, I’ve been inspired by their research, their passion for what they do, and it’s inspired me to expand my approach to research, learning, and being a doctoral student. I’ve also loved all of the professional development opportunities offered to fellows. Not only do I learn something at every meeting, but I feel more confident in my ability to complete my doctoral degree and become a successful researcher and professional upon graduation.
  • What is one piece of advice you would give to new VPR Fellows? Get to know the other fellows – there is so much you can learn from them!

Watch as CSU graduate students compete to explain their thesis or dissertation research using only 1 PowerPoint slide in 3 minutes or less. Winners will be chosen to be part of the Vice President for Research Fellowship Cohort of 2019-20 and will receive up to $4,000 in scholarship and support. The 3 minute challenge is on February 11, 2019 in the Lory Student Center, Grey Rock 290.
